Philosophy of Dante Valvo, LCSW, MFT Clinical Therapist

Therapy is not just a way to untangle the past—it’s a process of reclaiming the present and redefining your future. As Ocean Vuong writes, “The present defines the past, not the other way around.”

While we explore how your past experiences shape your present challenges, the goal is to help you find clarity and agency in the here and now. Together, we’ll shift focus from what has happened to what is possible.

I bring a unique approach to psychotherapy, blending Psychodynamic and Logotherapeutic principles with methods from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Internal Family Systems. Logotherapy, rooted in existential philosophy, focuses on the search for meaning as a primary driver of well-being. It’s about exploring how to live purposefully, even in the face of suffering or uncertainty. In practice, this means uncovering what matters most to you—your values, passions, and sources of strength—and aligning your life with those priorities.

Psychodynamic Therapy, by contrast, focuses on understanding how unconscious patterns from your past influence your present emotions and behaviors. By exploring these connections, therapy helps you gain insight and control over self-defeating patterns. With greater awareness, you can begin to make choices that reflect your current needs and aspirations, freeing yourself from patterns that no longer serve you.
